How to Create and Add Item Attributes
Step 1: To create a new item attribute, go to Item Attribute in the Products module, and click New.
This will open the New Item Attribute window. The first thing to do here is to enter a name in the Name field.
Step 2: Click the drop down arrow for Value Type to open up its drop down menu and select one of three options: Text, Number, or Lookup Value.
Text and Number are both simple attributes. Once they are created and added to an attribute set there will be a field to enter either a number or text respectively on any item given that attribute set. Lookup Value attributes require a little more work to set up, so that is what we will focus on.
If you want the attribute to be mandatory on an item that is added to an order, check the Is Mandatory box. If not, leave it unchecked. After that, click the blue Create button.
Step 3: Now that the item attribute has been created, we need to give it lookup value options to choose from. To do so, click the three dots next the attribute name to open up its context menu and then click Manage Value.
Step 4: From here, to add a new value, first click New at the top of the window.
Step 5: Next, enter a name in the Value field. Since the attribute this value will belong to is called Color, we will name this value Red.
If the value should add an additional cost onto an item this is selected for, enter that amount into the Amount field. After that, click the blue Save button.
Repeat this process for as many values as you want your attribute to have.
Step 6: Once you have created all of the item attributes you want to give to an item, go to Attribute Set in the Products module and click New.
Enter a name for the new attribute set in the Name field.
Step 7: Next, click the drop down arrow for Add Item Attribute and select the item attributes you want to add to the set from its drop down menu.
Once you have added all of the item attributes to the set that you want, click the blue Create button.
Step 8: To add an attribute set to an item, when either creating a new item or modifying an existing one, check the Has Attributes box.
Next, click the drop down arrow for Attribute Set and select the attribute set you want to give the item from the drop down menu.
Once you have selected an attribute set, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the blue Update button.
Step 9: When you add this item to an order, you will be prompted to select values for each attribute in the set. Click the drop down arrow for each Value field and select an option from the drop down menu.
Once you have entered values for each attribute, click the blue Create button to add the item to the order.
